Philippians Prayer: Discernment

Verse 9-10 (NASB):
9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;

As well as love and knowlege, we need discernment. Other translations used "depth of insight", "understanding" "all judgememt" "all insight". We could describe it as something we need to percieve. Why do we need to be able to discern? We find the answer in verse 10. We are told that so that we are able to approve. When we are speaking of approving, we need to be able to test if something is genuine or not. Someone going through the process of checking metal does the same thing. We need to be able to test to see that what is being presented before us is indeed genuinely of God, that they are of excellence. We need to be able to discern so that we can live sincere and blameless lives until the day of Christ.

Father, help us have the love and the knowlege and discernment so that we approve things of excellence and live lives of sincerity and free of blame.
