Paul's Prayer for the Ephesians Part 4

Love of Christ:

Verses 17b-19 is another prayer petition being made in this prayer to the Ephesians speaking about the love of Christ. The New Living translation brings out the theme for me.

Verses 17b-19 NLT:
May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

The Love of Christ is so deep that we will never fully be able to grasp it. I dont think that Paul is by any means trying to be demeaning when he says that we will never fully be able to understand it. We will only ever be able to get a glimpse of the love of Christ in this world. But yet Paul asks that Ephesians would be able to recieve power from God the Father to begin to taste the length, breadth of this love.

Prayer:
Father I pray that you would overwhelm me with the love of Christ. We have seen how you so loved the world that you sent your son in love to die for our sins. Thank you for your love so freely given,
Amen
